An elite combination of site management, teamwork and precision craftsmanship made for a momentous occasion on site at the Brisbane Markets trading floor roofing project yesterday.

The first two (of 18) trusses were successfully erected with the aid of a 100 tonne crane, which lifted and held each truss in place as the team worked to slot 4 sets of 4 bolts at one end of the truss and 2 sets of 4 bolts at the other end over twenty metres away.
Senior Project Manager, Barry Murphy explained that unlike most structural steel projects, where a template is the default solution, in this case, there was no possibility of making a template to set the locations due to the distances between each column and the varied lengths of the trusses.
"The first truss was 28 metres long, though each truss is a different length to accommodate for the individual stallholders entrances.” Barry said.
Only 2mm tolerance on the bolt placements
“The success of this process was entirely dependent on the skill of the people involved, who are working to millimetre tolerances.”
“I would like to acknowledge the commitment to quality and accuracy of everyone involved. Particularly Professional Concreting, Superform formworks, Steel Fabrications Australia, Steve Toohey’s Surveyors and Wiley Site Manager, Richard Forbes for achieving a level of accuracy not often required in the industry.” concluded Barry.
